A diaphragm grommet is a type of sealing component used in various applications to provide a flexible and protective barrier around a penetration or passage. This variety of rubber cable grommet incorporates a slender central membrane that can be punctured to accommodate wires of varying sizes for passage into enclosures or through panels. It is commonly employed in control systems and is accessible in Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) options.
They are often used in automotive, aerospace, and industrial applications where wires, cables, hoses, or other components need to pass through bulkheads, panels, or enclosures while maintaining a sealed environment. The diaphragm design allows for a tight seal around the penetrating object, preventing the ingress of dust, moisture, or other contaminants and providing protection against environmental factors such as temperature variations, vibration, and mechanical stress.
Diaphragm Grommets contain a thin central film that can be pierced to allow a range of different sized wires to pass through into an enclosure or through a panel. Two sided cut-outs have the central film in the centre of the grommet, whereas one sided cut-outs have the film to one side of the grommet.
